When a friend said he won't bother you anymore, as it will be a burden to you, that is similar, saying that please stop bothering your friend, as you will be a burden to him as well.
Friends are the people other than family who would be by your side at difficult time.
But when you are no longer allowed to be at someone's difficult time, that means, you are no longer a friend.
